JAMMU, Jan 1: On Tuesday, it was the JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, who didn't really endorse the suggestion of former J&K CM and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that the PDP, the NC and the Congress should forge a "Grand Alliance" to prevent the BJP from forming government in the state or allowing it to become part of the coalition government. Instead, he asked media persons to meet Azad to know what exactly he meant by the Grand Alliance and again reiterated his party's support to the PDP, saying Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is a seasoned leader capable of leading the state government. The fact of the matter is that Soz virtually ridiculed Azad by not sharing his view on the government formation in the state.
On Wednesday, it was the NC which rejected outright the Grand Alliance suggestion and declared that it had extended support only to the PDP and not to the Congress party. Reacting to the claim of PDP president and Member Lok Sabha Mehbooba Mufti that her party had the support of 55 MLAs, but her party was not in a hurry to form the government, spokesperson of the NC overruled the possibility of his party working with the Congress and asserted that the NC wanted the PDP to form the government with the support of his party and, at the same time, also claimed that the PDP till date had not approached the NC for its support.
The message of the NC spokesperson was loud and clear and his message was that the NC could work with the BJP in case the PDP and the BJP failed to stitch a coalition. A day before, one NC general secretary had claimed that all the 15 NC MLAs will support whatever decision party president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah take on the issue of government formation and that for the NC also all the options are open. This was also a signal that the NC was not averse to the idea of doing business with the BJP. After all, the NC had done business with the BJP when it led the NDA government at the Centre.
What the NC spokesperson on Wednesday said could be construed as a rebuff to the Congress party which of late started using very strong language against the NC in general and Omar Abdullah in particular. But more than that, what the NC on Wednesday said and again reiterated today only suggests that the government formation would take some time and that there is the possibility of the Governor imposing his own rule on the state in view of the continuing political deadlock between the BJP and the Kashmir-based PDP and NC.
