Police recruitment scam worth Rs 88 lakhs resurfaces in Udhampur

JAMMU, Jan 1: Six years after the infamous recruitment scam brought defame to Khakhi, it has returned to hit the headlines as a huge protest demonstration was held against Police by the aggrieved persons .
The recruitment scam surfaced in district Udhampur when a PSO of the former IGP allegedly took Rs 88 lakh from 42 persons on behest of the officer, then DIG IRP to select them in the recruitment process which took place during the year 2009 after the formation of the newly carved four districts-Samba, Reasi,Ramban and Kaishtwar.
The cop Babu Singh, PSO of the then DIG IRP Gulzar Singh Salathia, allegedly took 88 lakhs from candidates but their name did not appear in the final list following which they lodged complaint with the Udhampur police.
Police held an inquiry in this connection and found that the PSO of the senior police officer, misusing his position took graft from the aspirants. The departmental inquiry was later submitted to the PHQ for further disposal but till date, the PHQ has remained mum as no action was taken against the accused.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi Gareeb Dass when contacted said that inquiry in this connection was conducted and submitted to the higher authorities for further disposal.
Assuring action, ADGP Armed S.M Sahai when contacted, said that the matter would be looked into.
Pertinently, after the creation of the four new districts, four IRP battalions were raised to fill up vacancies of 4000 posts in which Udhampur got 515 posts and recruitment was got done accordingly.
