SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Radio Kashmir, Srinagar which proved to be the only viable communication link during the floods and which kept the people across the valley connected despite all odds is suffering for want of attention of the government.
Undone by floods, the station is witnessing the breakdown of the system and there is lack of coordination among its employees as nobody takes him or her accountable these days.
Early Times has learnt from reliable sources that the authorities have failed to restore the Radio Kashmir, Srinagar to its glory. The ground floor whish remained submerged for days together, is haunted by the ghosts as it does not offer the kind of facilities required for rendering the services.
"It has been since a long time when the flood water receded but the restoration of the ground floor is going on at the snail's pace. The authorities have even failed to restore the heating facilities in the ground floor of the station, hence hampering the work," said Hafizullah (name changed) an employee of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar.
As per this employee, the restoration of the ground floor of the Radio Kashmir has not been taken up forcing the all the employees, from the peon to the officer to work in the congested atmosphere. This situation has paralyzed the system Radio Kashmir, Srinagar said this employee.
In the same way the bills remain pending, taking a heavy toll on the temporary employees of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar. It has been learnt that the casual employees who work in the different areas in the station suffer on account of the untimely payment of the wages, leading to waywardness there.
"The present day situation at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar has become a big hurdle in organizing the cultural events. Given the post flood condition of the station and in the absence of the new government, the voice of Kashmir has lost its sheen," said some casual workers of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar.
As per these casual workers the station is witnessing the routine absence of some of the employees which doubles the work load of the others. There is no denying that Radio Kashmir, Srinagar kept the candle of hope burning through the most difficult times but that does not mean that the job is over. It is the job of the government to see to the post flood problems in the Radio Kashmir, said these casual employees.
