Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 29: Shabir Ahmad Shah of Kulgam, who landed in the lockup of Trikuta Nagar police station yesterday for his alleged attempt to sell the plot of ex-MLC Mohammad Yousaf Taing at Roopnagar here, had also made an unsuccessful bid to encroach upon the Shamshan Ghat land at Jogi Gate. In other alleged criminal acts, he has cases registered against him at different police station here and in Jallandhar.
He is alleged to have prepared a fake sale deed of the Taing's Roopnagar plot in sector 5 and then tried to dispose it off. In the police records, he is an alleged land grabber and history-sheeter.
On December 30, 2011, he, with the assistance of some criminals and other anti-social elements, was alleged to encroached upon the Shamshan Ghat land at Jogi Gate here and tried to raise a mosque there, thereby creating a communal tension in the city. The matter was, however, resolved with the timely intervention of police.
In Jammu, he is putting up in a EP house at Baba Jivan Shah Mohalla, Talab Khatikan. But in reply to an RTI application, EP custodian said on April 4 last that the "EP house at Baba Jivan Shah Mohalla is under the illegal occupation of Shabir and has not been allotted to any person by the department. As per the ledger record, no rent of this house has been received by the department since March 2007".
Vide his February 19, 2015, letter No 2970/SPCN, SP, City North, said in reply to another RTI application that "the matter has been got enquired into through SDPO, City North, Jammu, which reveals that Shabir Ahmad Shah is a history-sheeter of Peermitha police station".
He has 11 cases registered against him at Jallandhar railways police station, RPF post, Jammu, Gandhi Nagar police station, Nowabad police station, Peermitha police station, Pacca Danga police station and Kulgam police station.
Because of the long list of crimes he is alleged to have committed with impunity from law, Peermitha police station SHO was directed to open his history sheet.
He had also floated Muslim Development Forum to exert pressure on officials and police so that they give a cover to his wrong deeds, police sources alleged.
In a letter addressed to J&K transport commissioner on July 29, 2011, ARTO, Kulgam, stated that when he took action against Shabir for running an illegal travel agency - Blue Bird - at Kulgam, he lodged false and baseless complaints against him with the authorities concerned. He had allegedly adopted the same modus operandi against Taing also and tried to implicate him in false cases. In the ARTO's matter, he was booked by police under section 107/151 of CrPC on the intervention of then Kulgam deputy commissioner. Police sources said his sustained interrogation was in progress at the Trikuta Nagar police.
