Tourism Department violates HC orders
Resumes construction of huts on river banks

Anantnag, April 29: In violation of High court directive, Tourism Department has resumed construction of huts on the banks of one of the tributary of river Jhelum in Dadwagan-Verinag. Reports said that the department has resumed constructing huts on Nallah Sandarn one of the main tributary of river Jhelum despite the high court has stayed the ongoing constructions and directed authorities to remove encroachments. "Contractor at the behest of the officials having full support of the enforcing agencies, authorities has resumed construction works just to siphon off the money," an official
whishing anonymity told Early Times.
He said that the construction of huts on Nallah Sandran is part of the project which was started a year ago. "Prior to September-2014 floods said contractor had just started constructing a park on the said spot but after floods he (Contractor) is calming to have completed the work," said the official.
He said that the contractor managed to siphon off major amount of money meant for the development of the park. Locals of the area too accused contractor siphoning the money. "Apart
from leveling and fencing the area on river bank, the contractor did nothing but now we are being told that the major amount sanctioned for the development of this park has been utilized," a delegation of the village told Early Times, adding they will not allow contractor to draw the amount under the cover of floods. "We came to know that he (Contractor) is now saying that floods washed away the work done by him on but we are witness to it and will not allow him to loot the state exchequer," Villagers said.
Assistants Director Tourism, Tariq Ahmad was not available for a comment, however SDM Dooru assured action. "It came into my notice, in fact through media only. I have asked the department to produce the records and we are ascertaining the facts," Bashir Ahmad Bhat, SDM Dorru said, adding he has directed tehsildar to visit the spot. SDM said that he hasn't yet visited the spot but was being told that the major works have been done on the project.
When asked court has stayed the constructions, he said, "honestly I haven't visited the spot but I assure you that action will be taken and court order will be implement."
