| Pandits outright reject Govt proposal on return | | | JAMMU, Apr 29: Various Kashmiri Pandit organizations have outrightly rejected the return formula of the Government and expressed their resentment over settlement of displaced Pandits in four mixed townships in Valley. While reacting over the Government move the KP bodies said that this plan is not viable and slated to boomerang as there are no takers for it in entire community. Pandits will not like to face their another exodus within some years after their return to Valley as the move is bereft of guaranteeing the security and safety to the miniscule minority in Valley which was forced to flee from their after the militancy surfaced in Kashmir in 1989-90. The KP organizations while rejecting the move reiterated the separate homeland demand for over seven lakh Kashmiri Pandits within Valley with free flow of Indian Constitution where the writ of India runs the large. The KP organizations, have warned both Union and State governments against the move and asked them not to mislead the community on return issue as it will prove counter productive if put into action. The KP leaders reminded the government the recent happenings in Valley saying the situation has not improved since the mass exodus of the community in 1989-90. They said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has described the situation in Kashmir akin to genocide. Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) in its meeting at New Delhi today expressed its great resentment over the move to rehabilitate the internally displaced people against their wishes in Valley. He said as per the move four townships are to be constructed in Valley where 2500 flats will be reserved for Kashmiri Muslims. Mr Kashmiri while addressing the meeting said the move is debatable and no decision be taken without taking the displaced Pandits into confidence. Kashmiri said no decision except settling the Pandits in Kashyal state within Valley will be acceptable to the community as demanded by KPC. The move was also opposed by Sampuran Kashmiri Sangthan led by Rakesh Kaul. He said the homeland within Valley with UT status as per the Margdarshan resolution was the only viable solution to Pandits problems. Kaul warned the Government in setting the return formula into motion without taking the ground situation in to consideration. Some migrant organizations in Jagti camp including JCC, JTC and other organizations have also reiterated the homeland demand while rejecting the Government proposal.
