| Water scarcity in Kathua before Grashim season | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr 29: Grashim season is still to come but its affect has commenced as Scarcity of drinking water has increased. Series of protest demonstrations have begun and road blockades by agitated people have become a common feature. Sarpanch Surinder Singh lambasted the state coalition government and cursed BJP while addressing protesters. He said people reposed trust in Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and supported it in all the five constituencies with the hope that it would minimize their sufferings, but it has proved a mere eyewash. In the backdrop of drinking water scarcity, the people from different villages of Hiranagar especially from Dayala Chak area staged protests blocking Nation Highway as well Dayala Chak-Challan Road. Miffed over the wretched attitude of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and Sukh Nandan Choudhary, Cabinet Minister of PHE department, the villagers of Mela Panchyat and other adjoining villages staged protest demonstration blocking National Highway road for more than an hour in support of their demand. There was strong resentment amongst the villagers as they have been deprived of water facility since one and a half month and despite repeated requests neither the concerning department nor the administration bothered to sort out their hardships. Lamenting the departmental officials, Sarpanch Suriender Singh said that since months, thousands of people are struggling for drinking water due to dissimilar reasons. "Despite repeated requests the department officials turn Nelsons' eye towards their demand and bound them to come on roads repeatedly", he miffed. He said neither the government nor the local representatives bother to listen to the grievance of public. During the protest, the protesters showing resentment locked X En Rajeev Gupta in his office. The SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal and SHO Rajbagh rushed to the spot to mitigate the problem. It was after their assurance only that protesters roll back their struggle. The protesters warned of severe consequences if the department fails to meet their demand until morning. Amarjeet Singh, Dalbir Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Ashok Kumar and many others were amongst the protesters. |
