JAMMU, April 29 : Nilgiri XI defeated Vidyanchal XI by 50 runs to lift the cricket tournament of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The event was organised to commemorate the 10th foundation year celebrations of the institutions on its campus ground in Katra. Earlier, Nilgiri XI won the toss and decided to bat first made 165 runs, which, in reply, Vidyanchal XI could not chase and bowled out for 115 runs. Surmant Kumar made highest 45 runs while Sourabh and Ashish Yadav contributed 40 and 29 runs respectively from Nilgiri XI. From Vidyanchal, Ashish Ranjan took two wickets. In the final and prize distribution function, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof S K Jain was chief guest. He was accompanied by Registrar, Ajay Khajuria and Dean Students Welfare, Jugal Khajuria. Prominent among others present were Vinod Sharma (Administrator), R S Charak (Chief Security Officer), Captain Sucha Singh and Ashok Kumar (technical expert). The event held under the overall supervision of Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Ashok Kumar and president of Board of Sports, Dr Ajay Sharma. |
