JAMMU, April 29 : Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu in collaboration with SPIC MACAY organized a Kathak Performance by Rani Khanam, an internationally acclaimed Kathak Exponent from Lucknow Gharana at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium. SPIC MACAY, Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth is a non-profit, voluntary movement with its primary objective as to expose today's students and young people to the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in the age-old Indian Art forms and its heritage. Rani Khanam is one of the most sensitive and astute interpreters of Lucknow Gharana of Kathak today. Her style reflects deep comprehension of the dance tradition which has set new dimensions and source of inspirations to younger generation. A powerful and imaginative dance, Rani Khanam displays a breathtaking technique in both pure dance and in the art of abhinaya. She was accompanied by Vishwanath Misra Ji on Harmonium, Pardeep Mishra Ji on Tabla and Sayyora at Padhant. Anjali Sharma, Station Director Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by Anjali Sharma, Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, Vidushi Rani Khanam and Dr. Sapna Sangra, Coordinator SPIC MACAY, Jammu. Prof. Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare presented the formal vote of thanks. The event was compered by Sahil Mehta, Sonam Sharma and Priya looked after the stage management. The emotionally charged and artful performance was enjoyed by Faculty members, art lovers and students of the University of Jammu. |
