Kupwara, Nov 12: Pakistan violated ceasefire in Keran sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir due to which one BSF jawan was injured in a cross border fire on Friday late evening later who succumbed today. A top police official said that, on Friday late evening there was a heavy firing and mortar shelling on various Indian posts in Keran sector due to which one BSF jawan was injured. The jawan had got seriously injured and he was shifted to Srinagar based army hospital in Badamibagh for advanced treatment, but he succumbed today to his multiple injuries, the official told Early Times. The official said that, in recent past the foreign militants had tried to infiltrate to this side of Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district but all their attempts were foiled and according to him, the Indian army is giving the militants and Pakistani army a befitting reply. Srinagar based defence spokesperson confirmed to Early Times and said that, the jawan was injured on Friday late evening in a cross border firing who succumbed today. However sources said that, " from past several weeks, there is an intermittent fire and mortar shelling from Pakistan side due to which the people are afraid and they dug the underground bunkers for safety. There is a heavy shelling from across the border and people are shifting to the safer places for the safety of their families, during these harsh cold days people are also facing other numerous problems like curtailment in electricity, shortage of food grains and other day today problems, said sources. Sources further said that, there is no help from the government side they have been left on the mercy of God, adding that scores of poor families have to dig the underground bunkers at their own level for the safety of their lives. Especially the tension is escalating high among the children and women of rural areas who are living very close to the Indian border, and many families have shifted in the government buildings, sources informed. Meanwhile it is pertinent to mention here that on Oct 29, one BSF jawan and three locals were injured in a cross border firing when Pakistan had violated ceasefire in Keran sector of this border district. |
