Border skirmishes take toll of education system in 'bordering Poonch' | | | MS NAZKI Early Times Report Poonch, Nov 12: The recent border skirmishes apparently has taken toll of education system in the border district of Poonch which was worst affected due to cross border shelling and firing in recent past, sources said here today. Sources said, "43 villages in Poonch district fall in the sensitive areas along LoC where frequent shelling and indiscriminate firing has disturbed the peace of a population of nearly 84000 souls in the border district. "The impact of the disturbances has directly affected the academics and educational system in this border district as the schools are being used as relief camps for the displaced border dwellers who were forced to leave their homes and hearths due to the cross border shelling and firing, they said. As the district administration has identified the schools as relief camps, the students enrolled in schools situated in close vicinity to Line of Control (LoC) faced the brunt of the border skirmishes. "The unscheduled break (holidays) and lack of space in the schools during normal functioning of schools has affected the normal academics, as the authorities have not chalked out any arrangement to streamline derailed education system nor has thought of extra classes to make over the loss of the academic session of the students in border area," lamented a student on anonymity. Chairmnan Mendhar Youth Club Adv Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Kahn talking to Early Times has appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take concrete measures to construct permanent bunkers where people can be accommodated instead of government schools during border tensions so that studies of the students of border areas many not get affected. He further added that Mendhar Balakote and Mankote sectors of district Poonch are highly sensitive as these witness frequent shelling across the LoC but till date also have been neglected by the administration thus lacks all basic amenities including drinking water and health, education facilities. |
