Shabir Shah taunts 'united' Hurriyat | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 12: Even as the "united" Huriyat is in news for fueling unrest in Kashmir, other separatist leaders have started taunting their own colleagues who jointly issue protest calendar in the restive Valley. In the last two days, two senior separatist leaders -Shabir Ahmed Shah and Prof AG Bhat -strategically ridiculed the "united" Hurriyat, which comprises of Hurriyat-G Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, his Hurriyat- M counterpart Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik. On November 10, Shabir Shah who heads Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) asked Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik to come to a single platform by reconstituting the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC). Addressing Mirwaiz and Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah in a handout said: "Now, as you have acknowledged the single leadership, issued joint programme after mutual consultation with Syed Ali Geelani and have buried the past differences; why not reconstitute a single Hurriyat to fulfill the longstanding wish of the people of Jammu & Kashmir." Sources said by playing this card Shah wants to expose the "united" Hurriyat. "Knowing that united Hurriyat will not reconstitute on previous lines, he (Shah) wants to expose before the people that the so called United Hurriyat is united for nothing but issuance of protest calendars," said a senior separatist leader closely tracking the development. A day after Shabir Shah came up with his statement, former Hurriyat M Chairman Prof AG Bhat came down heavily on the united Hurriyat. For the last over a month, Prof Bhat looks unhappy with his own party head. On October 10, when Mirwaiz was under detention, the Executive Body of the Hurriyat (M), held an emergency meeting at Bhat's residence. The meeting pertained to a letter mailed by Geelani whereby he had addressed Mirwaiz as only the priest and not the head of his Hurriyat. The meeting, chaired by Prof Bhat had resolved that there was no need to respond to the "disrespectful letter where Geelani wants to uphold his monopoly over separatist leadership." But during the same meeting, as per sources, the Hurriyat (M) leaders dropped another bombshell and accused their own chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of having kept them in dark over protest program issued by the united Hurriyat. Recently on November 8 when Geelani called a meeting with "stakeholders" to decide on protest calendar, Prof Bhat and his party colleague Bilal Gani Lone had stayed away from the meeting. |
