2/22/2018 11:16:41 PM
Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: A senior BSF officer on Thursday said the border guards are on high alert along the frontiers in Jammu and Kashmir to foil the BAT attacks by Pakistani troops and infiltration attempts of militants. She said two Pakistani army men were killed in retaliatory firing of BSF and Army men along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in north Kashmir yesterday.
"Pakistan has been trying to disturb peace and tranquillity in India and J&K. They have been resorting to different ceasefire violations, sniping, BAT action and infiltration to disturb peace in J&K," Inspector General BSF, Sonali Mishra, told reporters after wreath-laying ceremony of a BSF constable S K Murmu, who died in Pakistani troops sniper fire along the LoC in Karnah sector of Tanghdar in North Kashmir on January 20 evening.
She said the army and BSF men deployed along the frontiers are on high alert to foil the BAT-attacks by Pakistani troops and infiltration attempts of militants.
Pakistani troops restored to fresh firing and mortar shelling in Uri sector today in which three civilians including a lady were injured.
Sonali said the Uri sector used to witness very less ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops but now they are resorting to more ceasefire violations in the sector.
"It cannot be ruled out that the ceasefire violations may be part of their strategy to push militants into the State," she said.
The IG BSF said there was also a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Uri sector yesterday and the army and BSF men gave befitting reply to them. "As per our reliable sources, Pakistani troops suffered two casualties," she said.
Sonali said since there was less snowfall in winter, they may attempt to push militants into this side to foment trouble in the State.
She claimed that 175 militants are present in launch pads across the LoC and are waiting to sneak into the Valley.
"The BSF men and officers are ready to deal with any situation. They area ready to foil the infiltration attempts of militants and retaliate strongly to ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops," added IG BSF.
Meanwhile, a police officer said Silikote, Chanrunda, Hathlanga villages in Uri sector were worst hit by the cross-LoC firing and morar shelling.
He said some villagers living close to LoC have been moved to safer place to avoid civilian casualties during the Pakistani firing and mortar shelling.
