Early Times Report

Anantnag, July 15: Throwing rules of marinating space from bed to bed to winds, the authorities at Maternity and Child Care Hospital in South Kashmir's Anantnag district have huddled over twenty beds in post-operative wards and drastically minimized bed to bed space.
This move hasn't only put the lives of poor patients in danger but is giving difficult time to patients and attendants in these hot summer days as the hospital sans proper ventilation arrangements.
A spot visit found that 21 beds have been huddled in room that, according to norms, should have just 6 beds.
In the room called postoperative ward, this reporter found 21 patients lying on beds and over fifty attendants but there was no nursing staff available. Few attendants were also seen resting in the cabin meant for the nursing staff.
Distance between beds isn't more than 1 feet while according to the norms it must be more than 8 feet. "Even a nurse or doctor who visits the patients for injecting some injections can't move around the bed," attendants said.
Authorities have installed one Air Conditioner (AC) in the Postoperative ward but it isn't serving any purpose.
"Major problem in this hospital is poorly ventilated.
This AC is also not working that is why we have brought fans here," an attendant told Early Times.
He alleged that most of the time nursing staff remains busy with their smart phones.
Due to untimely cleaning Sanitation inside wards always remains poor and gives rise to post-operative complications, hospital sources revealed.
Attendants said that most of the time wards and toilets inside the hospital bitter smell posing threat of infection to patients, attendants particularly to newborn babies.
Due to the space crunch in the hospital the labour and surgical wards having the capacity of seven or eight beds are huddle with 18 to 20 beds.
Medical Superintendent, M&CCH Anantnag Dr Zagoo admitted that they have minimized the space.
