Governor urged to bust forest mafia Sunderbani , expose DFO Nowshera
7/23/2018 10:51:53 PM
Early Times Report
Sunderbani, July 23: Amid common phenomenon of land encroachments and personnel fiefdom enjoyed by the forest department Nowshera , Sunderbani , the system prevalent is going unabated , despite Governor N N Vohra's strict stipulations to act hard on the violators .
The instance is of Makol forest Check post, nearly 15 kilometers away from Sunderbani where a large chunk of forest land is under the illegal occupation of the land mafia .
The fact remains aloud that such activity is not in isolation , but is supported by the forest officials even who are neck deep in supporting the corrupt practices of the mafia .Many of the Kuchha houses have come in the vicinity of the area which is just adjacent to the Forest Check post , where land mafia , after felling the green gold under the very nose of the forest department is carrying on the illicit works.
People of the area allege that after a series of complaints lodged with the incumbent Divisional Forest Officer ( DFO) Nowshera , no action could be initiated to stop the illegal smuggling of the timber and mushrooming of the land encroachment in the area by the mafia .
The people also allege that such activity is not possible without the connivance of the forest guards and the other officials, but all complaints lodged wit DFO Nowshera have fallen on deaf ears.
"We doubt that the DFO Nowshera is equally involved in the racket. Why is so that after lodging many complaints no action has been initiated on his part m" said one of the local of the area .
Sufficing his claim, another said that DFO Nowshera is under all knowledge about the mafia network active in the forest department, but he is deliberately putting up as a mute spectator.
" This DFO enjoyed great patronage of the then cabinet forest minister and have been using his office in supporting the mafia network that felled the green gold of Sunderbani besides encroaching the land . Though it is Governor rule , it is quite surprising that no action is being taken against him ," said another local .
It is pertinent to mention that in a recent meeting conveyed by the Governor N N vohra ,strict orders have been passed to tighten the noose on the corrupt practices in various department and particularly on the forest department's activities which have been under the scanner since long . But, after such directions how the incumbent DFO Nowshera is overruling the diktats of Governor is quite amusing .
The people of the area have appealed to the Governor to take cognizance of the activities of the DFO Nowshera and expose his network links supporting forest mafia in Sunderbani.
