SRINAGAR, July 23: After a massive protest by the people of Chatroo along with the family of Javed Ahmed Malik son of Mohammad Khalil Malik resident of Bharat Doda allegedly killed in police custody, SP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary placed two police constable under suspension for negligence of the duty.
However, contrary to the allegations of the people, in reference to the death of the deceased, Kishtwar police termed the death as an accident adding that the deceased was involved in bovine smuggling case registered at Police Station Chatroo under FIR No. 26 of 2018 U/S 188 RPC read with 3PC Act and was taken to PHC Chatroo for medical examination and subsequent remand from Executive Magistrate Chatroo from where he escape through maize fields and while running through maize fields near Guzar bridge fell down and died.
The suspended cop as per the order No. Established/Suspension/18/9560-72 dated 21-7-2018 made public today after much public pressure are Jaffer Hussain No. 488/Ktr MHC (Munshi) and Mohammad Amin No. 353/Ktr and both the cops were directed to report DPL Kishtwar.
A formal departmental inquiry has also been initiated against the both which is to be conducted by Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar Nihar Ranjan who had been asked to submit the report within week's time.
In another order, SHO Police Station Chatroo was attached to DPL Kishtwar and Sub Inspector Sanjeev Kumar PID No. Exj026094 I/C Police Post Mughal Maidan will function as Incharge SHO Police Station Chatroo in addition to his own duty.
Meanwhile, Majlis e Shoura committee Kishtwar headed by Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar also condemn the custodial killing and said that the deceased at the time of leaving the home had Rs. 1.50 lac with him. They said that the deceased was demanded Rs. 50000 by the police officials as gratification and termed the death of the deceased as cold blooded murder.
