12 girl students fall sick after consuming expired biscuits

Rajouri, Aug 10: 12 girl students of 9th class at Government Higher Secondary School, Lanoka in Nowshera Sub Division fell sick and were rushed to hospital reportedly after they used expired biscuits given by their colleague. The girls initially complaint about uneasiness and later few among them started vomiting and ran out of the class. The incident took place after first period taken by Mohd Sahoud teacher, who is also class teacher. "During attendance and first period the girls didn't report about any complication. It was immediately after the period was over, three girls came out of the class room complaining about uneasiness and vomiting" said the teacher.
The girls were rushed to the nearby health centre where that were provided initial treatment and later shifted to CHC at Nowshera. Sources said one student namely Nosil Kousar had a religious function at her home on Thursday and has brought biscuit packets to share with her friends. The expired biscuits made the girl students sick while Nosil was not among the affected girls. Other reliable sources said the biscuits packets brought by the girl were a part of Aganwari department supply for the use of small children. Shanaz Akhter one among the sick girls said few girls including herself had not taken the biscuit but fell sick.
She added supply of the new desks was made to our class room today and some girl students alleged that foul smell was emitting from the desks due to sub standard polish used to give finish the desks that made the girls sick. According to another version girls might have drink water after eating the biscuits and contaminated water can't be ruled out.
"Police have taken the cognizance of the incident and started investigation. All angles will be taken under investigation to find out the reason of sickness to girl students" said Master Popsy, ASP, Nowshera. Dr Suresh Gupta, CMO said all the girls are out of danger and will be sent to their homes in the evening. The girls admitted were complaining about uneasiness, vomiting and pain in the abdominals.
