J&K achieves 82 percent Aadhaar coverage

SRINAGAR, Aug 10: "Aadhaar enrolment which is being done on a continuous basis has crossed one crore and the aadhaar numbers of 102,11,893 lac residents have been generated so far" Secretary, Information Technology department, Saugat Biswas, who is also the State Registrar for Aadhaar, informed after a meeting chaired by him to review the performance of the various registrars for Aadhaar working in J&K. In a presentation on the status and progress of aadhaar enrolment in the State, Secretary, Information Technology (IT) was apprised that 7,30,540 enrolments and updations were undertaken in the last six months and and 4,81,747 new aadhaar were generated during the period. Over 250 enrolment centres under the State Registrar, at various locations scattered in all the districts by the State Government are engaged in enrollment and updation.
In order to universalise Aadhaar in the State, State Project Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SPD-SSA), Mission Director, Integrated Child Development Services (MD-ICDS) and Indian Postal Department (IPD) and various Banks had also been designated as registrars for Aadhaar enrolment. ICDS with 110 portable enrollment facilities, post offices with 52 enrollment centres, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan with 50 centres and 130 enrollment centres in various banks are currently performing Aadhaar enrolment in the State, in addition to the State's own arrangement.
MD-ICDS was complemented for their efforts in door-to-door enrollment of 0-5 years old children for which tablets have been provided and aanganwadi workers trained. The ICDS has till date done 17,349 door-to-door aadhaar generations with 110 active devices. MD-ICDS apprised that ICDS is procuring another 1500 tablets for extending door-to-door enrollment of 0-5 years children. State Registrar Aadhaar, Biswas directed that the activation of all the procured 390 tablets be completed by 15th August and 141 stationary enrollment centres be established by 31st August. The Secretary, IT set a target of 31st August for the Indian Postal Department to setup all the 87 enrollment centres targetted for them, in various post offices of the State.
He complemented the Chief Post Master General for having operationalised 52 centres within the last one month, which are aimed at enrollment of the general populace. Biswas urged the State Level Bankers' Committee to open additional enrolment centres in Shopian, Kargil and Leh districts, in addition to openning their remaining target centres. With a view to fast tracking operationalisation of enrolment centres the State Project Director, SSA will prepare a roster for enrolment in designated schools and move operators to schools whenever required. Senior representatives from UIDAI undertook to get inactive kits activated at the earliest.
