| Community bunkers for border people still incomplete | | | MS Nazki

Poonch, Dec 29: Out of 40 community bunkers sanctioned for border people in Poonch, 39 have been constructed by the Pachayat department but with out any living facility, sources informed here today.
They said eight months have passed since the construction of community bunker was started with the sole purpose to provide shelter to people during shelling by Pak army across the border but people said these bunkers were in poor condition without any living facility. Not even the plaster of walls have been done they added.
The need for bunkers. was felt after it was resolved that due to frequent shelling incidents from across the border concrete community bunkers will be constructed in sensitive area which include Balakote, Mankote, Mendhar, Mandi Namgali and Poonch for the protection of the people. The funds have been made available by centrally sponsored schemes viz-a-viz BADP and MGNREGA where Rs 2.5 lakh from BADP and Rs 3.5 lakh have been sanctioned for each bunker respectively, surprisingly the cent percent funds have been released by the central Government but concerned Block Development Officers have failed to construct the bunkers in stipulated time frame and up to the mark.
The people alleged that despite spending a handsome amount on the construction of community bunkers yet it has been found that same were not upto the mark. Only structure have been raised which has no living facility they said adding even plaster of walls was not done, how can we live there along with our families they added.
Meanwhile Director RDD Jammu has been apprised by the locals to look into the matter and direct the Concerned BDOs to speed up the work of the bunkers with fully facilities as soon as possible. |
