Jammu, Dec 29: Trouble ahead for BJP as refugees of all categories are thinking over fielding their own candidates on Lok Sabha seats
Although no official announcement has been made in this regard, a meeting of representatives of refugees, of all categories, was held some days back in which it was decided to field own candidates for Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province.
In Jammu province there are four types of refugees namely displaced persons of 1947 from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), Displaced Persons from Chamb in 1965, Displaced Persons from Chamb in 1971 and Refugees from West Pakistan. Refugees from West Pakistan have right to cast vote in only Lok Sabha elections while other three categories of refugees are citizenship of J&K and they have right to cast votes in Assembly, local self government and Lok Sabha elections.
Credible sources said that in the meeting refugee leaders opined that instead of depending upon political parties like BJP to solve their problems, it was better to field own candidates so that voice of displaced persons should be vociferously raised in the Lok Sabha.
As par rough estimates, total strengthen of these four types of refugees is more than 6 lakh in two Lok Sabha segments of Jammu province. While as displaced persons from Chamb and West Pakistani refugees live all along the International Border (IB), refugees from PoK are scattered in entire Jammu region from Poonch to Kathua. These refugees hold key in both the Lok Sabha seats.
In meeting, sources said refugee leaders expressed their strong reservation over attitude of the Central Government in solving their problems.
BJP leadership has reasons to be worried because party is eying on these refugees for victory in Lok Sabha elections.
