Residents of Mohra Kallar stage protest against PDD

MENDHAR, Apr 1: Residents of Mohra Kallar in Mendhar Sub Divsion of Poonch district staged a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) on Sunday demanding a higher capacity power transformer. The protesters even brought along the faulty transformer and blocked the Parani Project Road road for almost an hour a 63 KV transformer presently installed in the village is unable to bear the load and gets frequently damaged, they said while demanding a 250 KV transformer.
The residents had earlier also disconnected the high tension wires passing through their village, leaving villages like Mohra Kallar under darkness for last many weeks. The aggrieved residents said that the transformer was damaged around fifteen times in last three months and authorities were not installing a 250 KV transformer to resolve the problem. "Despite submitting bills on time we are being deprived of electricity from last Many months," one of the residents said. "This is 63 KV transformer for 80 houses so it gets damaged every week" another resident Social Workers Tahir Khan said The residents said after getting no help despite repeated requests to authorities, " They also threatened to intensify the protest if the authorities "failed to fulfill our genuine demands".
