Early Times Report
KATHUA, Apr 1: In an alleged violation of the model code of conduct, a video of Kathua Municipal Council's (MC) president wherein he was appealing to the Safaikaramcharis to vote in favour of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the upcoming parliamentary elections has gone viral on various social media platforms.
Describing the appeal, which could be seen in the video, by the Kathua MC president Naresh Sharma to the Safaikaramcharis as a clear violation of model code of conduct, the opposition parties have demanded action by the District Election Officer.
The Kathua MC president and BJP leader Naresh Sharma had organized a meeting with the Safaikaramcharis here at the complex located near the Council office.
The MC president Naresh Sharma while addressing the Safaikaramcharis during the meeting appealed them to cast their votes in favour of the BJP candidate from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Lok Sabha constituency on April 18.
Vice-President of the MC Rekha Kumari and a Councillor were also present in the meeting.
In the video, which is about 1 minute 34 seconds long, the MC president could be seen asking the Safaikaramcharis to support Narendra Modi so that he could secure another term as Prime Minister while he urged them to vote in favour of the BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh.
While addressing the gathering, Sharma cited the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent gesture wherein he cleaned the feet of the Safaikaramcharis.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties have trained their guns on MC president Sharma after his video of appealing to Safaikarmacharis to vote for BJP went viral on social media sites. The opponents of the BJP have demanded stern action against MC president for poll violation as they said that Safaikarmacharis actually are government employees and according to rules the president of the Municipal Council can not appeal them to cast their votes in favour of a particular political party during office hours.
