Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 1: Ongoing controversy over Article 35-A and ban on separatist groups have emerged as main issues in Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
While politicians are raising these issues to lure voters, developmental issues have been put on back burner.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claimed that Article 35A, was "constitutionally vulnerable and also hampering economic development of the state. A day later, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah said gun and militancy are responsible for damaging economy in Kashmir not Article 35A or Article 370.
"Article 35A has protected the state," he said.
"Article 35A and Article 370 was before 1990. There was growth of industries and well-known companies would set up their offices and there was a chain of hotels. But after 1990 everything has change," he said.
On Monday at an election rally in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, Omar said if the Article 35A is revoked, J&K's relationship with India will come to an end.
Omar also lashed out at Mehbooba Mufti over her claims that her party will lift ban on JKLF and JeI if it returned to the power.
"The ban on JeI and JKLF has been imposed by the center not by the state government.
Mehbooba is lying that she will lift the ban on JKLF and JEI. We have to convince the center to lift the ban," he said.
"If our party is voted to power, we will make efforts to undo the BJP's wrongs and lift the ban imposed on the JeI and the JKLF," the former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti had said.
Meanwhile BJP president Amit Shah claimed they will abrogate Article 35A by 2020.
"BJP will pursue abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir. As for Articles 370 and 35A, this was on BJP's agenda since the day of its inception, and is there even today and will always remain until they are removed," he said.
Similarly, Congress state chief G A Mir on Monday said they won't allow abrogation of Article 35A.
