Early Times Report
KISHTWAR, Apr 1: In a major setback to ongoing probe into the Killings of BJP State Secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar on 1-11-2018 in the heart of Kishtwar town, the Lashkar Militant believe to be involved in the killings has been eliminated by the security forces in Shopian district in south Kashmir on Thursday.
The death of the suspect Militant will bring down curtains on many things in Parihar Brothers Killings which is being looked through the prism of "political killings executed through Militants" and the arrest of Khanday could have been proved more helpful than his elimination.
The case is presently being probed by NIA.
The sources told the Early Times that among the three Militants killed in Shopian encounter, one of them belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen, while two others including Sajjad Khanday whose name surfaced during preliminary investigation carried out by the SIT at initial stage as potential killer was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba.
The officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police also identified the slain militants as Basharat Ahmad Mir son of Muhammad Rafiq, Aqib Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ahad and Sajjad Ahmad Khanday son of Muhammad Akbar-residents of Wasoora, Bhatnoor and Bamnoo villages of Pulwama district, respectively.
While Basharat was associated with Hizbul Mujahideen, Aqib and Sajjad were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba, the official said, adding that the trio was active since 2017.
As per the sources, the probe into the killings of BJP State Secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet Parihar is yet underway, but the Lashker angle was established by the intelligence agencies soon after the gruesome murder.
The NIA officials are tight lipped over the development in the ongoing probe and refused to divulge any details when approached for comment.
