Early Times Report

Jammu, June 13: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old girl (name withheld) from Kishtwar has been allegedly raped by an army soldier who had earlier forced a woman to end her life after ditching her.
The father of the victim told Early Times that someone called his daughter outside their home at village Tagood on late Wednesday night. "We thought that a friend of her might have called her to a nearby neighbourhood. But when she didn't return we started searching for her and later found her in unconscious condition," he said.
He said they found the identity card of the accused from the spot after he escaped and added that his daughter was allegedly raped by the accused. He said the accused had given some sedative to his daughter before raping her.
He said they later called the police and handed over the soldier's Adhaar card and identity card. The accused identified as Sandeep Singh, who is posted in West Bengal, is absconding.
The father of the girl said that his daughter is battling for life in District Hospital Kishtwar. He said that the accused is a local and had previous record of crime including an abetment to suicide of a lady wherein he forced the mother of three children to jump into the Chenab after he raped her. "By using his influence, he managed to come out of jail," the father said.
Meanwhile the doctors at District Hospital Kishtwar washed the stomach of the girl and found some poisonous stuff as well as some sedative in her stomach during the washing.
The doctors also carried some medical tests of the victim and preliminary investigation shows that she was raped in an unconscious state as no mark of major violence has been found on her body.
The preliminary investigation though confirmed the rape, the final report will is yet to be issued.
Though the condition of the girl is said to be out of danger, she is not in a position to give her statement to police. However she told her family members that she was raped by the accused, said sources.
It is pertinent to mention that on 11-8-2015, 32-year-old Geeta Devi, wife of Suresh Kumar, of Tagood village of Kishtwar, who was a mother of two children, jumped into the Chenab at Bhanderkot after getting dejected in an extramarital affair with the accused solider Sandeep Singh.
Singh had promised Geeta that he will marry with her in case she left her husband. The lady eloped with him, leaving her home and shifted to Jammu. After spending few days together, she returned to her home after the soldier refused to marry her.
Geeta, according to the sources, had lodged a complaint with Kishtwar police at that time alleging that Sandeep Kumar betrayed her and demanded action against him. But after police failed to take any action against Sandeep, the woman ended her life by jumping into the Chenab.
