Day after fidayeen attack, separatists have field day

Srinagar, June 13: A day after the deadly attack on security forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir left five Jawans dead, the separatists had a field day in Srinagar.
Some of the senior separatists like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq not only were allowed to leave their homes but they also held a meeting.
Sources said the separatists held the meeting at the office Hurriyat Conference M led by Mirwaiz in Raj Bagh locality and that over half a dozen leaders from the party attended the meet.
Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police had not received any instructions to prevent the separatists from holding the meeting.
"Had we got any such instructions from the concerned quarters, the police force would have foiled their plans to hold meeting," said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said it was negligence on the part of intelligence agencies to have allowed the separatists to hold meeting when the security is on high alert in the wake of the fidayeen attack.
"During such situations noose needs to be tightened around the necks of anti-India elements so that a strong message is sent down their ranks and supporters," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The development took place on the day when the Governor Satya Pal Malik said that the fidayeen attack on a CRPF party in southern Anantnag district was carried out at the behest of Pakistan.
"Whenever there is peace is the valley Pakistan try to disrupt it by resorting to fidayeen attacks," the Governor told reporters on the sidelines of an event.
"We had conducted elections in the state in a peaceful manner. This did not go well with the militant handlers based in Pakistan. Whenever there is peace in the Valley Pakistan tries to disrupt it," Malik said.
He said that it is only with the approval of Pakistan that militants carry out fidayeen attacks in the valley.
When asked about that the attack was carried out on the road on which Amarnath yatris are also supposed to travel, the Governor said that the security forces would not allow any militant group to get near the yatris.
Meanwhile the Advisor on Home Affairs K Vijay Kumar ruled out any security lapse in the fidayeen attack.
