Super Cop: A Havaldar who wields influence in police department
6/14/2019 12:12:07 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 13: A havaldar posted in one of the police stations in district Kathua wields so much influence in the department that even the senior police officers tend to bow before him.
Sources told Early Times that the `super cop' keeps all his seniors in good humour.
"He is the only havaldar, who is in the good books of almost all the SHOs in the district. Not only this, he also remains in constant touch with the officers after their transfer to other districts.
He obliges the officers by doing many of their minor or major works which remain pending after their departure," said sources.
"Several officers get their work done by their favorite Havaldar. Moreover, he gets things done in Punjab as well," added sources.
Sources said the Havaldar is also well aware of all the masterminds involved in running different illegal trades in the district.
Sources further informed that the power and clout of the Havaldar could be gauged from the fact that at a recently held ceremony he had been the only lower ranked cop who was seen interacting freely and without any hesitation with a group of officers, adding that not only this, a high-ranking police officer saluted the Havaldar even before the much junior cop performed the same ritual well in advance.
"This Havaldar has so much dominance in the department that as and when he remained posted in the district, he was able to get himself adjusted in prime police stations. Even, he plays the role of a mediator in negotiating deals with the people involved in illegal trades. This is the reason that this prominent Havaldar could be often seen roaming in private vehicles owned by those having dubious credentials during the duty hours.
Sources said that despite being deployed in the other districts, he remained actively connected with the officers of Kathua district as well as the staff members of all the police stations.
The Havaldar's lifestyle is not less than that of an affluent person. That is why it is a common sight that he remains in the company of rich businessmen while spending leisurely time with them in high-end social gatherings, sources added.
