After Sarore, another toll plaza coming up at Lakhanpur very soon
Another burden on Jammuites in offing
1/4/2020 12:49:10 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 3: The repeated protests by opposition parties as well as Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) state leadership to abolish toll plaza at Sarore have failed and now another burden is in offing for Jammuites in the form of another toll-plaza at Lakhanpur.
Sources in the National Highway Authority of India (NHIA) informed Early Times that the date has not been finalized for officially start the collection of toll plaza at Lakhanpur but it has already been decided to start collection of toll-plaza at Lakhanpur very soon.
“It is not decided whether the proposed new toll plaza at Lakahnpur would be located at the same place where goods toll collection was existing, which was abolished from December 31st”, the official said, adding that the decision for the location of the toll plaza at Lakhanpur would be decided by the government.
The decision of charging toll plaza at Lakhanpur is not less than a shock for Jammuites, who had been protesting against Sarore toll plaza. Even Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders had also opposed the Sarore toll plaza and one leader had vowed to uproot the toll plaza at Sarore.
“Instead of abolition of toll plaza at Sarore the BJP government has given another gift to Jammuties, who will have to shell out more money for their travel to other states”, a local said, adding that thousands of people from Kathua as well as from Jammu have been travelling to Punjab and other states for various works, who would have to cough up more money in coming days.
Earlier also locals as well as several politicians had raised voice against the imposition of toll plaza at Sarore and it was also argued that millions of pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine would have to cough up more money for their travel, which would make their travel more expensive.
“As per Union government norms, the distance between two toll-plazas should not be more than 60 kilometers but the toll plaza Sarore and Ban toll plaza are within a less distance, so one toll plaza should be abolished but no one is listening to the demands of Jammuities, who have been facing the brunt for blindly supporting the saffron party”, a politician said.
