| PCCF tours forest area of Jammu Division | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 21: Dr Mohit Gera, PCCF J&K made a tour of Jammu Forest Division. He was accompanied by Samuel Changkija, Conservator East Circle, DFO Jammu Alok Maurya, Range Officer Vijay Khosla and other officials of Jammu Forest Division. During the visit of Karli nursery of Jammu Range, he emphasized upon the need to have advanced planning and regular monitoring of nursery activities as this constitutes one of the core activities of the Forest Department.
He advised for creating a seed bank in each nursery by collection of seeds from superior parent stock of native trees which will ensure improved survival and better growth of plants.
The need to provide regular trainings to field staff in modern nursery techniques was also underlined.
Subsequently, he visited a plantation site in compartment 2 of Nagrota-I Block and appreciated the natural regeneration of trees along with planted species. Instructions were issued to the staff for undertaking tending operations such as thinning and pruning in such plantations to ensure healthy growth of trees.
He also inspected the plantation journals of the closure and emphasized upon better documentation of field forestry activities by use of drone cameras. |
