SRINAGAR, May 21: There seems to be no let up in Corona Virus deaths in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir as two more elderly women today fell prey to the virus in the Kashmir valley. The death toll in Jammu & Kashmir has reached 20 now.
In the meantime, 59 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. With today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir is 1449. As 684 patients have recovered and 20 have died the number of active positive cases are 745.
Reports said that a 70 years old lady from Parisabad in Budgam district who tested positive for Covid-19 on May 18 died at Chest Diseases hospital. The woman was admitted at SMHS Hospital on 15th May where she tested positive and later on she was shifted to CD Hospital Srinagar where she died today. She was a case of COPD with restrictive lung disease and Covid-19 pneumonia.
An 80 years old lady from Srinagar tested positive for Covid-19 a day after her death at SMHS hospital. The lady from Usmaniya colony, Bemina Srinagar, who died at SMHS hospital on Wednesday, tested positive for Covid-19 today. She was admitted with bilateral pneumonia and hypertension on May 19.
Meanwhile reports said 51 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from Kashmir and eight were reported from Jammu. Kulgam reported 21 fresh cases followed by Anantnag 12 cases, Kupwara seven cases, Srinagar five cases, Budgam four cases, Kathua and Ramban three cases each, Ganderbal two cases, Kishtwar and Jammu one case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 59 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), eight from Jammu division and 51 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1449. Also two more COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir division.
Out of 1449 positive cases, 745 are active positive, 684 have recovered and 20 have died; two in Jammu division and 18 in Kashmir division. Moreover, six more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, three from Jammu division and three from Kashmir Division. The bulletin said that out of 1, 07,108 test results available, 1, 05,659 samples have been tested as negative till May 21, 2020.
Additionally, till date 1,25,866 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 33,586 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 57 in hospital quarantine, 745 in hospital isolation and 21,893 under home surveillance. Besides, 69,565 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 264 positive cases, 171 active positive, 89 recovered, four deaths; Kulgam has 192 positive cases, 181 active positive, 10 recoveries, one death; Srinagar has 174 positive cases with 71 active positive, 97 recovered, six deaths; Bandipora has 137 positive cases, eight active positive, 128 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 129 positive cases with 34 active positive, 91 recovered, four deaths; Kupwara has 125 positive cases, 77 active Positive, 48 recovered.
“Shopian has 109 positive cases, 11 active positive, 98 recovered; Budgam has 62 positive cases, 30 active positive, 30 recovered, two deaths; Ganderbal has 27 positive cases, 12 active positive, 15 recoveries and Pulwama reported 19 positive cases with 10 active positive, nine recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 68 positive cases, 36 active positive, 31 recoveries, one death; Kathua has 40 positive cases, 36 active positive, four recovered; Udhampur has 33 positive cases, 11 active positive, 21 recovered, one death; Samba has 16 positive cases, 10 active positive, six recoveries; Rajouri has eight positive cases, four active positive cases, four recovered.
“Kishtwar has seven positive cases, six active positive, one recovered; Ramban has 30 positive cases, 29 active positive, one recovered; Reasi has four positive cases, three active positive, one recovered, Poonch has four active positive cases while as Doda has one active positive case,” said the bulletin.
The advisory has informed the people that offices and other workplaces are relatively close setting with shared spaces and thus COVID-19 infection can spread relatively fast among officials, staffs and visitors. The basic preventive measures need to be observed by all employees and visitors at all times.
These include physical distancing of at least two meters, use of face covers/masks to be mandatory, practice frequent hand washing (for at least 40-60 seconds) even when hands are not visibly dirty and use of alcohol based hand sanitizers (for at least 20 seconds), respiratory etiquettes to be strictly followed which involves strict practice of covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and disposing off used tissues properly besides Self-monitoring of health by all and reporting any illness at the earliest.
