Admin needs to fortify the quality of public services: Munish Gupta
Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P resident upset over lack of civic amenities
5/21/2020 11:36:16 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 21: Editor-in-Chief, Early Times, Munish Gupta said that the provision of adequate public services determines the quality of an urban life; however, it’s sorry to say that the lack of basic civic amenities in a number of localities in Jammu city negates this theory.
Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, “The administration must speed up the pace of development in those areas including Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P which urgently need a transformation in the quality of existing essential services.”
“Residents of Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P are losing their patience when it comes to the civic problems they face every day. The residents here claim that the authorities have repeatedly turned a blind eye to their woes,” said Munish.
“The administration needs to pay special attention to fortify the present infrastructure in Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P in order to provide a comfortable life to the people residing there,” he added.
Munish said that there is a clearly a lack of coordination between the authorities who have been given the responsibility to carry out improvement of civic amenities in the locality.
“The authorities are creating a chaos as they are not able to provide the much needed face lift to the existing public services of different kinds in Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents of Trikuta Nagar Extension 1-P while speaking to Early Times maintained that while poorly-maintained inner roads and by-lanes are an eyesore, the poor drainage system and insanitation in the area are also big sources of nuisance for them.
Residents are irked by the fact that rather than offering solutions to the multiple problems, the authorities always try to sweep the issues under the carpet in order to hide their own follies.
The residents alleged, “The condition of the interior roads, which lead to different lanes and by-lanes, is going from bad to worse with each passing day.”
While blaming the administration, the agitated residents said, “The roads seem to have been left on God’s mercy.
The re-carpeting work of roads has never taken in hand by the concerned agencies. It seems as if the concerned department is not bothered about our sufferings. Not much development work had been carried out in our locality.”
A resident of the locality, said, “The roads of our area have been in an ailing condition for the past many years. I don’t know why our locality is always ignored while the work of re-carpeting takes place in other localities in the vicinity.”
While several residents complained that most of the time, sewerage remains block in the area adding that the condition of sanitation is also very poor as no one comes to pick the garbage on a regular basis.
Residents said, “We are fed up with the garbage strewn across the road and the unbearable stench emanating from undisposed waste. Growing heap of garbage on roads and vacant spaces in the area could lead to an outbreak of epidemic.”
Several residents were irritated over the stagnant contaminated water in the drains that surround their houses. They said that the sewerage system remains choked due to lack of maintenance.
“The drains have not been cleaned for a long time. At times, the dirty water from the drainage gets collected in the lanes. The foul smell emanating from the clogged drains makes it difficult for the residents to even breathe properly,” the residents said.
The residents appealed to the administration to intervene and redress their grievances.
