Kashmir's 'influential' under scanner for land grab

Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 5: Even as the district administration has retrieved over 400 kanals of prime land in Chatterhama area on the Srinagar outskirts on August 4, the alleged land grabbers include some "influential people" of Kashmir including politicians and businessmen. The land costing around Rs 100 crore in open markets that has been retrieved will be used for public benefit. Sources in Raj Bhawan said the group of like-minded politicians and businessmen were behind the land grab. It was reliably learnt that the influential had managed to get government land mutated as their personal property. Sources said each of the land grabbers who was allegedly close to the corridors of power during the previous regimes had managed to take over at least 50 kanals each. The prime land which falls on the foothills of picturesque mountains was being converted into satellite colonies comprising of villas and farm houses.
