Early Times Report

ANANTNAG, Mar 14: The hospital administration at Maternity and Child Hospital Anantnag Saturday took the minister of state for Health, Asiya Naqash for a ride and did not let her walk through the corridor where the pregnant women had been placed on beds.
The lone maternity hospital of south Kashmir caters to the patients of all the four districts of south Kashmir including Banihal but lacks accommodation and other infrastructure.
Due to lack of space the hospital administration manages to deal with the situation by placing beds in the corridor for the admitted pregnant women. However when the MoS health, Asiya Naqash reached the hospital this afternoon, the hospital admin in order to present the good picture of healthcare made her to directly rush to the labour wards on the second floor of the hospital. "Though one comes across pathetic scenes in the hospital every day but today hospital admin had cleaned up the labour wards and had ensured that two women do not share the same in any of the wards.
As soon as the minister reached the hospital, medical superintendent Abdul Majid Mirab guided her directly towards the gate leading to labor wards," eyewitnesses told Early Times."Some people tried to guide the minister towards the corridor gate with the intention to show her the pregnant women lying on beds but the MS foiled their attempts. He tried to present the rosy picture of the messy state of health," they said.
The minister, eyewitnesses said, after being taken for a ride by the medical superintend ent who recently scuttled the efforts of the chief medical officer of shifting the hospital to old district hospital building, had to face an embarrassment after the people and attendants complained about the messy health care.
"Some angry attendants clearly asked the minister not to make visits to the hospital for pomp and show like her predecessors but act. After facing embarrassment, the minister grilled the hospital authorities for failing to provide better health care to the people," said a local journalist who was accompanying the minister. He warned them against any negligence in providing healthcare.
"Deliver or be ready to face music," the minister, said.
