SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Professor Saif-ud-din Soz today cut a sorry figure since handful of Congress workers listened to his speech during a function held here at the party headquarters to welcome new PCC Chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
As soon as Mir finished his speech and Soz stood up to deliver his speech Congress workers started moving out of the venue. There was no interest among the party workers to listen to former PCC Chief and they thought it better to move out of the venue of the function. Even some of the leaders could be seen non-serious on the occasion.
Soz virtually pleaded with the party workers to keep quiet and allow him to carry on with his speech. However, his repeated pleas failed to impress the Congress workers and most of them left the venue as soon as he started his speech. As he carried on with his speech the other workers followed suit and started to trickle out.
While the former PCC Chief was delivering his speech, the incumbent PCC President along with some of the other party leaders and legislators could be seen talking to each other thus adding to the prevailing chaos and confusion. At times Soz was inaudible owing to the side talks of the Congress leaders and workers.
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bandipora, Usman Majeed was even rebuked by Soz, but to no use as Usman carried on his with chit-chat with the party leaders and workers. On the other hand the PCC Chief was seen talking to some of the Mahila Congress leaders who were also there on the podium. Another Congress leader Surinder Singh Channi also faced the music from Soz.
There was total indiscipline at the function as Soz was delivering his speech and at it seemed that one is present at a 'fish market'. As Soz was delivering speech the MLA Bandipora left the podium and went to the office where some of the office bearers along with some leaders were already present. Due to the indifference of the Congress leaders and workers the former PCC Chief was forced to stop his speech with the same lacking substance and value. He just mentioned about the Article 370 in his speech while leaving out all the other political issues that are hogging the limelight in the state these days. There was chaos and confusion earlier as well when Mir was escorted by some of the party workers to the podium. Scores of Congress workers went to the podium and the podium was about to collapse due to the excess weight. It was only after repeated pleas from the party leaders that Congress workers came down and sat on chairs that were already placed there. This was mentioned by MLA Bandipora during his speech.
