Jammu, Mar 14: Baffled, the Bhartiya Janta party that had maintained a stoic silence over the Lal Singh-Gurmeet Kour issue seems to be a lost cadre.
While it's state and central leadership is dumbstruck, the newly incorporated leaders in the party have started demanding Lal Singh's exit from the party or his apologies to the lady doctor.
Rajesh Gupta, a senior BJP leader in a press communiqué issued to the media has said that either Lal Singh should be expelled as the cabinet minister and from the party also or he should apologise to the lady doctor for absurdly abusing her in the full public view.
Rajesh Gupta appealed Lal Singh to apologies to doctor or tender his resignation. He added that this type of behavior with women doctors is not acceptable and asked as to what Lal Singh wanted to prove. He lashed at Singh by saying that neither Lal is above the law nor parallel to God, this is democratic country and there should be no place for dictatorship, he lamented.
Meanwhile talking to Early Times, Dr Gurmeet Kour said that she stands by her statement and since she has received no official word from the police as assured by the department to provide her the information on lodging of FIR against Lal Singh, she would be moving the court on Monday.
A senior BJP leader said that matter is under discussion within the party circles and waiting what course of events are shaped in near future on the issue before the party can take any appropriate step.
Some on the condition of anonymity also admitted that Lal Singh's behaviour was uncalled for and national high command should take immediate action against him.
" While the Prime Minister Narinder Modi is advocating the need for Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, his ministers are denigrating the modesty of the females in the public," they said adding that it has brought great ignobility to the party which already is riding very low in Jammu and Kashmir since the advent of PDP-BJP combine in state.
Dr Gurmeet Kour while talking to this newspaper said that the ministers who now are ruling the state queue up outside the doors of the common people folded-hands 'begging' for votes and once they jump into the power bandwagon, they take common man to ride.
She said that she would go to the extreme end to seek justice from the law of land for the derogatory remarks she has received from Lal Singh and set an exemplary paradigm for the other ministers to respect the common man.
"Today I was abused in the public and I took over him. Tomorrow if any one abuses any other, he or she should have courage to come forward and show the abuser on his face his actual ground," said Dr Gurmeet.
The police today however declined to lodge a FIR against health minister Lal Singh for allegedly misbehaving with Gurmeet Kour.
On March 9, a day after she was publicly abused, doctor wrote to police to register a FIR against health minister Lal Singh and also forwarded the same to chief minister, the deputy chief minister beside various police officers and the protem speaker of the assembly.
Police on January 11 had sent the doctor's application to legal section for comments as contents of the application did not seem applicable for registering an FIR.
SHO, Bakshi Nagar, Daleep Singh said, "We have received comments from the legal cell and it was apprised to us that no FIR can be lodged as per the contents of the application. However under section 504, the doctor can file complaint for insult in the court. We have started investigations in the matter and police is recording the statements of eyewitnesses and doctors who were present during the inauguration function when that alleged incident took place".
On the threat from doctor, that she was mulling to move court if the FIR is not registered within couple of time, SHO said, "These things take time, we have to follow the procedure".
Dr Gurmeet Kour said, "It is not for the police to decide to lodge FIR or not. Now as police have shown its inability to lodge FIR, it has left me with only option to move to the court. It appears that police has succumbed under political pressure".
"For the last five few days police has assured that FIR would be lodged and sought time, which is why we waited for police and did took legal discourse. Now I will be moving to court on Monday", she added.
