Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 14: Despite lapse of more than six months, the proposal to repair/ restore the roads which got damaged in last years' flash floods and incessant rains in the month of September, has not taken off till date as Union Government has not released the requisite funds.
Credible sources told Early Times that State government had sent a proposal of Rs 590 Crore for the permanent restoration of roads got damaged in floods last year across the state but till date center government has not released funds for the same.
"Post devastating flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir in September last year, hundreds of roads got damaged and as a result many areas got disconnected and major damage was caused to the roads in hilly areas," they said adding that not a single work on restoration of these roads has started on the ground.
Sources further informed that the total proposal of Rs 590 crore was prepared as a special grant in aid by the concerned department for approval in which Rs 263 crore for Jammu region and Rs 327 crore for Kashmir region had been demanded by the state government for the permanent restoration of the damaged roads.
"The total 4388 kilometer length of damaged of roads was assessed by the department including 2692 kilometers was assessed in Jammu and 1696 kilometers was assessed in Kashmir region and the work on these damaged roads are waiting was restoration," they said. Failing to start restoration work, tourism sector in the state is getting badly affected and several infrastructures are waiting for their repair work, they said.
Astoundingly, the current financial year at the verge of closure and more than six months have passed but no funds have been released by the center government despite repeated request communication sent by State government in this regard, however, the issue of release of fund has been put up vociferously ever since the new dispensation has taken over reign in the state led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
