SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Favouritism flourished in the Education department during the NC led government and it is a hard reality that the Ex-Education minister did everything to favour the blue eyed for the promotion.
The senior lecturers who are serving the department for quite a long time now have leveled serious allegations against the Ex-Minister that the department witnessed the worst kind of irregularities when he was at the helm of affairs.
"There are many Higher Secondary Schools which are actually headless but the previous government did nothing sincere to appoint principals to these higher secondary schools in the state," said a lecturer wishing not to be named.
The lecturer said that at many places a Principal is in charge of two Higher Secondary Schools which has badly hampered the work and at some places there are only the caretaker principals who don't count themselves responsible.
The lecturers are of the opinion that the Education Minister during the Omar Abdullah government illegally elevated many blue eyed to the post of Principal Higher Secondary without caring for the rules and regulations.
"The Ex-Education minister didn't follow the rules required for appointing principals to the Higher Secondary Schools which served as a shocker to them. The minister kept the rules and regulations aside and elevated people of his own choice to the post of the Principal," said some senior lecturers.
These lecturers said that despite being the senior most in the department they were bypassed by the Ex-Minister to facilitate the people who were influential in the corridors of power. According to these lecturers it is mandatory to appoint a person for the post of principal who has at least three years services as the senior lecturer. Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar while talking on the issue said, "I am making insight into the problems which surely are there in plenty. These problems have been handed down by the previous government and I will try my level best to overhaul the system within the department."
The Education minister further said that he has gathered information from the Commissioner Secretary Education about the problems confronting the department. He said that he will utilize all means at disposal to get the department back on the track.
