Early Times Report

Jammu, June 12: Non serious and casual attitude of the PDP led alliance government towards Jammu and BJP's hollow concern got exposed as the meeting scheduled to discuss burning issues related to Restoration of Mubarak Mandi Complex to its pristine glory was postponed once again today. Earlier on, due to one or the other reason the meeting of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society, of which Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is Chairman was deferred ,even as a day before Durbar Move offices shifted to Srinagar, the CM along with a couple of ministers including Minister for culture Haseeb Drabu visited the complex to take stock of situation and progress of renovation works.
Sources said the meeting fixed today at Jammu was to be chaired by the Chief Minister himself and invitation was extended this time to prominent people from different walks of life including a good number from ruling BJP which has been echoing concern over the Heritage complex while it was in opposition.
Besides those who are members of the Society had been informed about today's meeting which was later announced as having been postponed. This came as a disappointment for many who had been waiting to for the meeting in order to express their reservations and views over existing condition of the prestigious historical heritage complex , sources added. .
What has dismayed those keen to get this Heritage complex restored without delay and road blocks is the attitude of BJP as a party that has showed no enthusiasm nor eagerness towards this issue after it came to power, said one of the members of the Society adding that none, not even the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh has ever cared to visit the site.
As for the present status of the Mubarak Mandi complex is concerned, even as most of the offices it housed in the past have been shifted, there is no visible progress in the works of renovation and repairs, said the member. The menace of illegal parking slots continues to present a messy look . Despite several measures and so called strict measures to get this menace cleared and off the heritage complex, it continues to plague the area in many ways.
According to sources it is happening allegedly in connivance with the Society approval as it has never opposed nor resisted continuance of parking slots in and around the area.
No body knows where does the revenue collected also in illegal way from the parking of vehicles go nor has it come to fore who runs the contracts of parking with whose permission. While all these questions remain unanswered, the meeting that was to be held today stands postponed with government's , particularly that of BJP's attention focussed elsewhere.
