Clean chit to Kitchloo even before probe? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 24: On Friday, the State Government appointed Justice RC Gandhi as head of inquiry commission to look into acts of violence, arson and loss of life and property in Kishtwar on August 9. The appointment was made under the Commission of Inquiry Act 1962 vide SRO 375, dated August 23, 2013. It is expected that inquiry committee will start work soon and fix responsibility on those who engineered attacks on the minority community or what really happened and who did what. The August 9 despicable incidents had led to the resignation of Minister of State (MoS) Home Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, himself a resident of Kishtwar, on August 12 following an intense debate in the Rajya Sabha and demand made by the minority community in Kishtwar and elsewhere. The affected minority community had alleged his involvement in the gory incidents and accused the local administration of watching the attacks on the minority community by the armed mob, who was shouting anti-India and pro-Pakistan and pro-azadi slogans and carrying with Pakistani flags. The aggrieved minority community had alleged that everything happened in Kishtwar during his presence in the town and that he, instead of discharging his duties, "instigated violence" and "not allowed honest officials to act against undesirable elements". The fact is that the entire minority community demanded resignation of Kitchloo as well as DIG alleging they were responsible for what was done to the minority community. As said, the inquiry committee has yet to start its work. But if some highly placed sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Government are to be believed, then it can be said that Kitchloo would be back in the Government in the next few days. One report has even suggested that "the stage is set for former Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo to get back his portfolios as the Government has reportedly assured him that he will get a clean chit soon in the events leading to the communal clashes in Kishtwar". "Kichloo has been assured that whatever be the outcome of the inquiry, either judicial or any other ordered by the Government, he will be reinstated as MoS in Omar Abdullah's council of Ministers and his portfolios will be given back," a highly placed source was quoted as saying. The implications of what the "highly placed sources" revealed are serious, as they have the potential of disappointing the minority community and shaking their faith in the system. |
