ANANTNAG, Aug 24: Otherwise sober Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today lost his cool when the mike he was provided to reach people at Bijbehara in South Kashmir's Anantnag district did not work.
An agitated Chief Minister left the venue without addressing the people. Irked by CM'S move NC activists damaged Government property and resorted to stone pelting; Meanwhile Bijbehara police logged an FIR against miscreants and have initiated investigation.
Omar Abdullah who today inaugurated Government Degree College at Bijbehara and laid foundation stones of other three important projects including Trauma Hospital at Bijbehara, Fruit Mandi at Jablipora and Adar -Seepan bridge, got irked due to the technical snag in the public address system of the information department.
At around 01:43 PM, the mike went silent when district president National Conference Anantnag, Mohammad Akbar Ganie was addressing the gathering. The Chief Minister who was already upset over the poor participation of public in the function, hardly waited for 5 minutes, came down from the podium, shook hands with a few activists sitting in the front row and left venue furiously.
However, Chief Minister managed to handle reporters for 2-3 minutes for brief interaction in which he described the importance of fruit Mandi but the interaction ended soon leaving reporters high and dry.
As soon as Omar Abdullah got into his vehicle, National Conference activists manhandled the Information department employees and smashed the public address system, chairs and started pelting stones on security forces. They also attacked scribes who tried to cover the violence during which one Photo-Journalist's camera got partially damaged.
Activists held protest demonstration against district administration and raised slogans against deputy commissioner and SSP Anantnag.
Taking strong note of the negligence allegedly committed by information department employees, Director Information department has placed district information officer Anantnag Tanveer Ahmad along other three employees under suspension.
Meanwhile, Bijbehara police has lodged an FIR 183/2013 against miscreants who damaged information department's public address system and camera of photo journalist.
