Flood like situation in low lying areas of valley
Incessant rains throw life out of gear

Srinagar, Apr 6: Incessant rains on Sunday brought life in Kashmir valley to a grinding halt as the inundated and waterlogged roads forced people to stay indoors while as the Sunday market in the civil lines area too was marred by the inclement weather.
Normal life in the Kashmir valley was thrown out of gear today and the heavy rains lashed the valley inundating roads and low lying areas all across the Kashmir valley.
All major roads and other links were submerged due to heavy rains while as the low lying areas were completely inundated disrupting the traffic and pedestrian movement.
Water level in River Jehlum was also increasing as the rains were still continuing when this report was filed.
People from low lying areas in Srinagar, Budgam, Baramullah and Bandipora districts told Early Times over phone that they were facing flood like situation and waterlogged roads and internal links were completely under water. In some areas water even forced its way in residential houses.
Reports received said a large number of areas in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, including Najan, Rakh-e-Shilwat, Markundal, Naid Khai, Zalpora and Nowgam are waterlogged.
Reports said Deputy Commissioner Bandipora has directed the concerned authorities to press into service adequate number of dewatering pumps and speed up the dewatering process of inundated areas including agriculture land.
A Met department spokesman said light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at most places in the state with isolated thunder squalls in Jammu division during the next 24 hours.
He said during the subsequent two days there will be decrease in precipitation. Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, closed since December last year due to accumulation of several feet of snow on the road at several places, recorded minus 2.8 degree minimum temperature.
At Leh it was minus 1.1 degree, Met spokesman said adding light rain or snow could occur during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 9 degree and minus 1 degree.
Though there was slight drop in the minimum temperature in Srinagar against yesterday, but it was still 9.6 degree, 3.6 degree above normal.
