Tulips fail tourists

SRINAGAR, Apr 6: In what could be termed an act of cheating the Floriculture department made a fun of the tourists by declaring the tulip garden open for the tourists on April 5. Majority of the tourists left the garden on a very sad note.
Many tourists who had made it to the garden out of curiosity returned dejected and disappointed. Since a handful of tulips had bloomed at the tulip garden there was nothing but disappointment and dejection on their faces.
"Why did the floriculture department threw open the tulip garden in haste. The garden has nothing to offer. The ever worst spring season has taken toll on the tulips. There are only a few tulips which have bloomed,'' said a group of tourists from Jaipur while sharing views with Early Times.
People in general more so the tourists accuse the floriculture department of cheating by throwing open the un-bloomed garden. They said that the concerned minister did not bother to have the first hand information before throwing open the garden.
"Why didn't the concerned department not take the prevalent weather conditions into consideration before throwing the garden open. The department officials would have known that tulip bloom was at its low this year. What will have the tourists to pay Rs. 50 for?" questioned Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a tourism player.
The garden presents a look of a desert with hardly few beds of tulips in bloom. It appears that with the onset of the election days, the ministers have forgotten about their responsibilities. The government derives its pleasure by with the emotions of the people.
"This year tulips did not bloom because of the hostile weather conditions. The tulips may turn dead after April 15. Now blooming of tulips is impossible on account of hostile weather and also its sowing time is over," said a floriculture officer.
Tourists, who come to Kashmir these days, dream to see the Asia's largest tulip garden in full bloom. When the garden is not in bloom they are bound to get dejected and same has happened this year.
"Isn't it the job of the ministers to look after their portfolios honestly? The ministers have taken it for granted that they are not answerable. The statement from the concerned higher ups that a probe would be ordered is nothing but an eye-wash. This is cheating and the concerned minister as well as officials are ought to be made accountable," said Sangeeta, a tourist from Maharashtra.
