With Rana, Nasir at important positions; NC grass- root workers feel betrayed by party leadership
Take jibe at Omar for failing to connect with people on ground

SRINAGAR, Apr 6: As the National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah is all set to file his nomination papers for Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat on Monday the grass-root workers of the party are quite worried over the disconnect of party leaders especially Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah with the people on ground.
The traditional National Conference workers and activists are quite worried that the younger lot of party leaders is keeping them away as if they have nothing done for the party. This they believe is the reason that some of the seasoned campaigners and leaders have parted their ways with the party.
"National Conference was considered to be a party of the basic ground workers or grass-root workers who lived across the length and breadth of the state. However, the things have changed and there is no more respect as well as regard for the people who offered everything to the party," said a group of NC workers.
The grass-root workers opine that with people like Nasir Aslam Wani and Devinder Singh Rana assuming important positions in the party the veterans have been neglected by the party leadership. This they said may not augur well for the party especially with the assembly elections slated later on this year.
"Not to talk of people like Nasir and Rana, chief minister Omar Abdullah too does not know much about the grass-root workers and their contribution to the party. This needs to be kept into consideration otherwise the party would lose heavily in some of the areas considered to the strongholds in the overall scenario," said the grass-root workers.
The grass-root workers said that decision of Ghulam Ahmad Saloora to part ways with the party may prove costly in the Ganderbal constituency, considered to be a strong bastion of National Conference. The constituency is being represented by Omar with his father, Dr. Farooq Abdullah also representing it in the past.
"When Omar assumed the office of the chief minister in January 2009 he tried his best to clip the wings of senior party leaders like Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Mohammad Sagar. However, he could not succeed and as such had to drop his plan. But by placing people like Nasir and Rana at important positions Omar has given a message that non-players have important role to play in the party affairs," said the grass-root workers.
The grass-root workers say that NC President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah had better grip of the situation as far as connect with the basic workers is concerned. They said that Omar has turned out to be a disaster not only as chief minister, but also as party since he is the working president of the party.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah is scheduled to file his nomination papers for the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat. He is expected to address the party leaders, activists and workers later on.
