Rain to continue in J&K, sub zero temperature in Kargil, Leh

Srinagar, Apr 6 : Rain coupled with damaged and waterlogged roads has disrupted normal life in the Kashmir valley, where minimum temperature remained above normal though day remained cold. Isolated thunder squalls is predicted in Jammu division while light rain or snow could occur in Ladakh region, where Leh and border town of Kargil record sub zero temperature.
A Met department spokesman said light to moderate rain or thundershowers would occur at most places in the state with isolated thunder squalls in Jammu division during the next 24 hours.
He said during the subsequent two days there will be decrease in precipitation. Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, closed since December last year due to accumulation of several feets of snow on the road at several places, recorded minus 2.8 degree minimum temperature.
At Leh it was minus 1.1 degree, Met spokesman said adding light rain or snow could occur during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 9 degree and minus 1 degree. In the Kashmir valley it was raining at most places, disrupting normal life.
Majority roads, including in the civll lines and other areas in the summer capital, Srinagar, are damaged with big holes filled with water, disrupting pedestrian and traffic movement. A number of roads also were waterlogged and a number of lowlaying localities are also under water, making pedestrian movement almost impossible.
