Errors surface in voter list, EC changes Mehbooba's gender
4/7/2014 11:40:20 PM

Early Times Report
anantnag, Apr 7: What could be termed as negligence of the Election department, gross errors have surfaced in 2014 voter list in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency.
However, the officials said that all the errors will be rectified in the final list. In one such gross error, PDP president and party's candidate for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, Mehbooba Mufti, has been shown as father.
A voter list in possession of Early Times shows Mehbooba as father of her two daughters, Irtiqa Mehboob and Iltija Mehboob. Voter list does not end at the errors only but scores of double entries of voters have been made. Case in point is Nisar Ahmad Bhat who has been entered in the voter list in two halqas.
Another elector, Masrat Ahmad Bhat has been doubly entered in two different halqas with his age also shown different. Raising doubts over the double entries in the voter list, NC MLC Dr Basheer Ahmad Veeri has lodged complaint with the election officers of the district.
"It seems to be deliberate attempt to benefit a particular political party. I have personally scanned the voter list of three halqas and found at least 45 double entries. All the double entrants belong to PDP. I have lodged complaint with the election officers and are mulling to lodge complaint with ECI in next 24 hours," Veeri told reporters here in hurriedly called press conference.
Meanwhile, a senior election officer wishing not to be named told Early Times that yet election authorities haven't given the final touch to electoral voter roll.
