Jammu, Apr 7: A whopping 800 kanals of forest land in Sunjwan, has been encroached upon, according to the complaints submitted to Vigilance Organization by one Anice Ahmed son of IAS officer of Sunjwan.
However, taking swift action, Vigilance sleuths lodged case in this connection and wrote to the forest department for its retrieval. Further, forest officials of forest division Jammu removed illegal encroachment of 500 kanals land falling under khasra number 349 and got it fenced, while as, for eviction of rest of the land falls under khasra number 353, Revenue department has been asked for demarcation.
The land was encroached by an influential NRI doctor who was having nexus with forest and revenue officers. Sources said earlier, that land encroachment case was hushed up by both revenue and forest officials under whose active connivance, the encroachment of the whooping chunk of land was in progress.
The case came to limelight after the initiative of Vigilance Organization Jammu following the complaint of whistle blower. Acting on the complaint, a joint team comprised of Vigilance Sleuths, Forest and Revenue officials visited the spot and during demarcation, it came to know that the land which was being encroached upon was infact belonging to Forest Department.
"500 Kanal land falls under Khasra Number 349 has been retrieved and fenced accordingly, while the rest of land falls under Khasra No 353 is yet to be removed as a letter for demarcation of the said piece of land has been shot at Revenue Deptt," said DFO.
Pertinent to mention here that around 300 kanal of land falls under Khasra No 353 has been encroached at Sunjwan by some influential persons, which is yet to be retrieved. However, a revenue officer when contacted said that demarcations to be taken place soon, so that encroached forest land is restored back to the Forest Department.
