BJP Kashmir wing wants discussion not abrogation of Article 370
4/7/2014 11:39:49 PM

Javaid Naikoo
SRINAGAR, Apr 7: Hours after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) announced abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution if voted to Power, BJP Kashmir wing stated that they want a discussion not abrogation of Article 370.
BJP National Council member and member of State Parliamentary board from Kashmir, Sofi Yousuf while talking to Early Times said that they are not in favor of allowing people from outside State to Kashmir and establish industries and construct houses as according to him geographically Kashmir division does not contain much of space to accommodate outsiders as per their will and taste. "I am not in favour of complete abrogation of article 370 as Kashmir is a different place but yes there must be discussion on whether this article is fruitful for common masses of Kashmir or just few families are gaining out of this status to Kashmir since decades," said Sofi Yousuf. He said that there is difference in opinion among the people of outside state in general, people of Jammu and people of Kashmir in particular about Article 370, however, according to him nobody better than Kashmiris can decide on it.
He also said that when three candidates are contesting on BJP ticket from Kashmir division namely Mushtaq Ahmad Noorabadi from Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, Arif Majeed from central and Ghulam Mohd Mir from North Kashmir constituency, Kashmir BJP wing particularly all the three candidates of BJP in Kashmir will go among the people for votes with an idea of discussion on Article 370 instead of abrogation of the article.
The reaction of Sofi Yousuf, who is considered the senior member of BJP in Kashmir division, came at a time after BJP today in their election manifesto announced that Bhartya Janta Party has pledged to abrogate Art 370 of the Constitution if voted to power. In their election manifesto announced Bhartiya Janata party today promised the abrogation of Art 370 which as per legal experts relates to the special status of Jammu and Kashmir state. Pertinently as the 52-page paper file was released among others by BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at the party headquarters, BJPs latest move is likely to create a sharp reaction from the regional mainstream as well as separatist political parties of Kashmir especially National Conference and People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress Kashmir wing as after Modi's speech on Article 370 in Lalkar rally of Jammu last year, politicians of regional political parties which NC, PDP and State Congress too opined that like BJP is trying to grab the extremist voter bank of the country by communal speeches it is similarly employing abrogation of Article 370 as a tool in Jammu and Kashmir to grab vote bank as well.
