Authorities spend lavishly on office renovation, places order for luxurious cars | Patients cry for ambulances, medicines at GMCH | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Apr 7: Notwithstanding the fact that Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu is facing shortage of medicines and patients craving for much needed Ambulances, the authorities at the helm are unhesitatingly spending lakhs of rupees for renovation of office and placing orders to procure luxurious/ staff cars. It has been reliably learnt that recently more than five lakh rupees have been spent for renovation of Principal's office. And despite availability for staff car for the higher officials, they are learnt to have placed order to procure two Scorpio SUVs. Responding to recently exposed death rate at GMCH, by Early Times, a senior doctor however, showed some regret and said that it was very unfortunate, being only premier health institution in Jammu, the GMCH has not sufficient ambulances to meet daily requirement rush of patients. "Although, the fact that authorities are having an Scorpio SUV and a staff car for personal use. They have placed order for more luxurious cars...... Only five out of 10 Ambulances at GMCH are in good conditions, while other five have become defunct and are not in a reliable condition", sources said, adding that the transport wing of the premier hospital of the city has been facing shortage of drivers too. Sources said that Medical Superintendent of Dental College is playing the role of a trusted lieutenant of concerned authorities at GMCH. "All decisions and file works are influenced by MS, Dental College and that is how she has managed to get sanctioned luxurious staff car that is New Scorpio SUV staff car for his own use", sources said, adding that instead of streamlining, derailed functioning of hospital, the authorities are placing orders of transfer of nurses and other paramedic staff. Sources further said that no contract approval for car parking has been made for the last five years. "They do not hesitate in spending lakhs of rupees on renovation of her office and other expenditures, whereas, the contractors are crying for their money who have renovated wards following directions of Minister concerned", they said. |
