| PDP rebuffs Omar's accusations on facilities for KPs | | Says, CM hoodwinking people on migrants issue | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 7: Taking serious exception to Omar Abdullah's statement accusing his party leader Mehbooba Mufti of opposing facilities for migrants at Jammu, People Democratic Party (PDP) here today said that Chief Minister is either completely ignorant about the facts or is trying to ignore them deliberately.
Reacting over the statement of Omar Abdullah, a spokesman of the PDP said that it was PDP and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who initiated a process for rehabilitation of Pandits in Valley by constructing quarters at four places in Kashmir way back in 2003-04. He said PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has never opposed the bettering of facilities for migrants at Jammu but strongly advocated for construction of TRTs in Kashmir valley for rehabilitation of Pandits in their native land of which they are part and parcel. Instead of constructing township at Jagti she demanded that such facilities be provided in Kashmir valley to encourage community for return to their homes and hearths.
He said it was the former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who soon after taking over the reigns of Government in J&K visited migrant camps on the occasion of Shivratri to greet Pandits and presented a token gift of walnuts to them which are considered auspicious for the celebration of the festival. This way Mufti Mohammad Sayeed created a precedence which was never set by his predecessor Dr Farooq Abdullah during his six year tenure, spokesman added. He said during his three years of rule Sayeed visited camps on every Shivratri to maintain the tradition and interacted with the community members there. He also visited Delhi and held Shivratri Milan with displaced Pandits there and appealed them to help his Government in giving practical shape to the return formula so that composite culture of Kashmir is restored.
Spokesman said after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed neither his successor Ghulam Nabi Azad kept this precedence nor Omar Abdullah bothered to visit camps or migrant bastis on Shivrarti festival during last five years of his rule.
The spokesman said Kashmiri Pandits are not the people who can be misled by false statements or whose sentiments can be exploited by false promises. The community has played a frontline role not only in J&K but Indian politics also and they can't be hoodwinked by the Omar Abdullah's childish statements. The community can better understand that who is their well wisher and who not. They fully know who was ruling the State when gun came and the community was forced to flee, spokesman added.
The spokesman said instead of sharing the responsibility and facing the situation to boost the morale of the people of the State who were in turmoil, the NC leadership deserted State and took refuge in a foreign country while the leaders of PDP worked on ground to lick the wounds of hapless people of the State, he added. The spokesman said that PDP is of the considered opinion that Kashmir is incomplete without Pandits and Party is always there to act as a bridge between the majority community and minorities of the Valley to facilitate the honourable and dignified return of Pandits to Valley so that the both communities can lead a peaceful life as before and maintain the age old tradition in this regard, spokesman added. |
