Congress workers refuse to campaign for Mehboob Beigh | '83,000 votes matter a lot during LS Polls' | | Javaid Naikoo srinagar, Apr 7: Congress Minister of State Tourism along with Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee Vice President and other senior State Congress members had to face wrath of local Congress workers in South Kashmir's Tral area after workers refused to campaign in favour of National Conference and Congress alliance candidate Mehboob Beigh in their areas. According to reports as the Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir who is also campaigning head of State Congress for South Kashmir along with Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee vice President Mohammad Anwar Bhat and district president Anantnag Gulzar Ahmad Wani reached Tral village to attend workers' meeting, the workers refused to campaign for Beigh. The leaders were told that the people who used to vote for NC have joined other parties and the people now weigh the candidates in terms of developmental works executed by them in the area. However, the leaders got some consolation when 150 workers assured their support to the coalition candidate. Rest of the workers, reports said, categorically refused to work for Beigh. Congress leader from Tral, Surinder Singh Chani said Sikhs constitute a good number of votes and people elect him on merits. Pertinently Tral area has around 83000 votes and people usually come out to vote. Beigh is contesting against People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti. |
